Point the finger at "other networks".
When asked about the "magic negro" message that was cleared to air during Fox's NYE broadcast, VP of programming Suzanne Scott didn't apologize:
Fox News VP of programming Suzanne Scott explains, “We received tens of thousands of text message submissions during our New Years Eve special, and this particular viewer submission was inadvertently cleared for air. At FOX we recognize our error as opposed to networks who allow their hosts to utter crude vulgarities to the public.”
Inadvertently?
That about as valid an excuse as "well, someone else did it."
So, what of the remaining "thousands" of text messges sent to Fox? I'm certain that some drunken neocon in Conneticut had some interesting things to send. Also, the proximity of the text to the endless loop of the story on Fox and right-wing radio makes this "inadvertently convenient", doesn't it?
