Buyer's Remorse

Heck of a job Brownie.

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, whose stunning victory in January was fueled in part by Tea Party anger, has snubbed the fiery grassroots group and declined its invitation to join Sarah Palin Wednesday at a massive rally on Boston Common, the Herald has learned.

Brown’s decision to skip the first big rally in Boston by the group whose members are credited with helping him win election has some experts saying he’s tossed the Tea Party overboard, as he prepares for re-election in 2012.

And while the Boston Herald frames their piece within the context of a re-election bid, as Brown is merely serving out the remainder of time left from Ted Kennedy's term, the fine folks over at Fox"Nation" are finally realizing their "miracle-man" was nothing more than another John McCain in disguise.

Seriously, Brown is playing this pretty smart, as aligning yourself with Tea Baggers and Sarah Palin at this point in the game really isn't going to gain him any real ground worth holding onto. He likely knows that the likes of Palin, Bachman, and Glenn Beck are starting to do damage to the GOP. He's looking at the long view, something that most conservatives don't seem to be able to accomplish. Then again, I could be wrong.

Never-the-less, Brown is obviously more concerned with re-election than Tea Bagger posturing. He knows what his state wants, and it's not conspiratorial blubbering.

Unsourced Rhetoric

Leave it to the folks at HotAir to title a lead headline with an unsourced "quote" in order to connect Obama with the murders at the University of Alabama.

An article in the Boston Herald in the headlines section of the fringe-conservative site.

The article paints the portrait of a troubled woman, no doubt, but there are referenced quotations from those that new Amy Bishop - a woman who allegedly went on a shooting spree at the University of Alabama - that provide valid information to the report. It was toward the end of the article that this rather odd "quote" was referenced.

A family source said Bishop, a mother of four children - the youngest a third-grade boy - was a far-left political extremist who was “obsessed” with President Obama to the point of being off-putting.

But Mercedes Paz, a Brookline biochemist who also oversaw Bishop’s work in 1993, described her as a friend and a likable woman.

Notice how the unsourced quote was immediately followed by a detailed one?

I'm not entirely sure what the writers, Laurel J. Sweet, Jessica Van Sack, Jessica Fargen and Ira Kantor, were intending by putting in this specious piece of data, but it certainly fits into the conservative meme that Obama supporters are unhinged zombies ready to strike at a moments notice.

If these writers expect their reporting to be taken seriously, leave out the conjecture and stick with facts.
