We all know that Obama can speak quite articulately and at length without a prompter on a variety of issues - though the Modern American Right are want to either ignore those moments or attempt to spin them is some desperate fashion - but this is just another instance of where Right Wing icons simply fail without the tools they decry.

Maybe if she had written some notes on her hand then she would have been saved; maybe even gotten some support from Caribou Barbie.

Fumble And Off-Side Recovery

While Think Progress has an effective write-up of Jan Brewer's debate performance and subsequent "deer in the headlights" moment with the press afterwards, There's something brewing here ( yes, I made a coffee pun ) that I think some may be missing.

First up, her struggle to define exactly what she's accomplished - made all the more hilarious considering the fact that she and her mouth-agape conservative fan base continually sputter on about her accomplishments.



The not-ready-for-prime time Governor is either clearly tickled with the position she is in or is honestly at a loss for how to describe what she and her administration have accomplished.

But wait, the Calvary is assembling.

The initial bugle call comes from none other than Hot Air:

it’s well and truly painful — but endearing too. Reminds me a little of that “singing candidate” from Rhode Island, in fact, minus the nuttiness: As much as you might cringe, we can all relate to the goofy humanity of the moment. Alternate headline: “Jan Brewer to win reelection by 15 points now instead of 20.”

Because we all know that since George W. burst onto the scene as a Presidential candidate that conservatives have always had a soft-spot for bumbling politicos. It came to a rolling boil with Palin and continues to more than simmer now that the midterms approach.

And with that in mind, I get the sense that Brewer may be considering "Pulling A Palin" after what happened just moments from the debates conclusion.



Can we say "over her head"?

That aside, I'm betting on conservative bloggers to cry "reporter plants" once they realize that they can't defend the governor's inability to defend her false claims.

So, are we about to see the next fringe-conservative resign from her elected office in order to heed the call ( skip to 3:20 for the relevant - or irrelevant - quote ) of "real Americans"?

Some Thoughts For Your Morning

- Upon hearing the news that Sen. Robert Byrd had died early this morning, I began to wonder exactly how long it would take conservatives to politicize his passing. Considering the upcoming vote on Financial Reform in the Senate, as well President Obama's desire to have a vote by the end of the week, I'm looking for conservatives and their media masters at Fox"News" to be going full throttle on this one.

- Elena Kagan is to start her Supreme Court confirmation hearings today, after opening remarks from Senators, and it's likely to be a much bumpier ride than Justice Sonya Sotomayor got. With all the falsehoods being perpetuated by conservatives - and even some normally reliable media like NPR - this confirmation process is likely to take some of the spotlight away from the Gulf oil disaster. Perhaps someone like Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity will find a way to bundle the two together.

- I heard Geraldo's initial offering of this comments regarding Rolling Stone writer Micheal Hastings when he was debating the firing of Gen. Stanley McCrystal with The Howard Stern Show's Robin Quivers - herself a military vet. You can usually tell when a person - be they conservative or not - has reached the bottom of the barrel when the comparisons to terrorists come out as the keystone to your argument.

- It usually the loudest within the conservative movement, be they hardcore Tea Bagging screamers or not, that decry the government are going to be some of the first with their hands out when they see the opportunity to gain from it. In a regarding manufacturing, 74% of self-described Tea Baggers support a nationalized manufacturing strategy. This is in stark contrast to the "message" that they are attempting to bring with them. Not only that, but such a pro-worker stance does tend to smack of hypocrisy, considering their utter disdain for an organized workforce.

- Arizona Governor Jan Brewer continues to milk her 15 minutes of political fame with a misleading ad that continues the false narrative that the Obama administration has surrendered American soil to Mexico. And while this has been completely discredited, the shear gimmick factor for conservatives is just too juicy to give up.

Some conservatives are already crowing that Jan Brewer has won the war on this one since Obama and her sat down to chat. My only problem with this is that this is pure political posturing on her part and I think that Obama should have been more forceful in his approach to this. Then again, he's far more adept at playing political chess while his opponents look at the politics of America as a game of checkers - you jump over one Democratic piece and they start screaming "KING ME" and there not even half-way across the board yet.

I will give Governor Brewer credit on the fact that she played this post-sit-down presser as if Obama was frightened and on the defensive. You'll notice that she didn't say whether or not he had read the law. That was so unblushingly planned on her part and I'm fairly certain that this is going to be a major talking-point generator for conservatives for the next few weeks.

The main problem I have with this is the fact that Obama didn't come out and speak with her. It's a safe bet that if he had she wouldn't be posturing nearly as much and the mouth-agape press, ever eager to get a juicy sound-bite, wouldn't be asking the "have you read it" question.

So when will we hear from Obama about his meeting with Brewer? Gibbs will likely be fielding questions from the press pool today about it and no matter what answer he gives, conservatives will claim that they have won. But when the final act of this like Republican play is over, I'm looking for conservatives to not be crowing, but eating it.

Some Thoughts For Your Morning

- Conservatives love to use the specter of war, Nazism, and family in conjunction with one another to play to base emotions within the movement. Arizona governor Jan Brewer has conflated all three into a blatant lie in order to defend the over-reaching immigration law in her state. I wonder what else she's distorting in order for people to be on her side?

- I'm a fan of Sarah Silverman, but much in the same way that Janeane Garofalo stated, blanket statements about racism don't help the liberal/progressive cause. She is correct that there is a racist element to specific programs within the Fox"News" programming timeline ( both past and present ) I don't think the entire line-up is as racially motivated as it is completely and utterly dedicated to disseminating misinformation en masse.

- I'm continually asking myself why conservatives hate an organized workforce. They call groups like "teachers unions" a "special interest groups" that are there for nothing more than to have the upper hand in political power. I find this rather disturbing in the fact that these teachers are organizing in order to ensure that they have a voice beyond their vote at the polls. They want schools to be a place for all students, not just a select few. Why aren't conservatives concerned about corporate lobbyists? Could it be because they don't care for the average American, that they are there solely to see Republican ideals implemented that would ultimately afford mass deregulation to rape the American economy like they did during the Bush administration? Conservatives want privatized education that is affordable to the few, because to them, not all Americans deserve education.

- Seems that BP is starting to cover-up the fact that there environmental disaster is starting to show up on beaches in the form of dead animals. The "drill, baby, drill" meme is not just "spill, baby, spill" but "kill, baby, kill".

- With Arizona governor Jan Brewer the "face of the moment" for Tea Baggers, I'm guessing this upcoming meeting with President Obama is going to earn her some face-time on Fox"News". However, her ability to be honest about the meeting will most certainly be in question from those not within the reactionary realm of conservative ideology. After all, they do tend to confuse constructive criticism with being totally unhinged and "angry".

- As per the norm for Caribou Barbie, she took after NBC when an alleged promise was made to Sarah and Todd that, if they chose not to appear on a program to directly respond to author Joe McGinnis, they would have any prepared statements featured on the show. Naturally, Palin and hubby lack the courage to appear anywhere but Fox"News" and opted out. Statements were prepared but never featured on the program. However, there is no conclusive proof that NBC struck such a deal and we are left to rely on the questionable words of the Palin's. I'm of the mind that they formulated this plan in order to keep up the narrative that there is rampant "liberal media bias" in America.

- Seems that little Jimmy O'Keefe is afraid to do any interviews on his own, as he's got his pimp-daddy Andrew Breitbart in tow during a sit down on Good Morning America. The incessant whining is pretty much non-stop and O'Keefe even admits that he would break the law again if given the chance. And it's likely that he violated his parole by engaging in fraudulent actions by forging Census documents.

- And speaking of O'Keefe and Breitbart, Andrew went on Glenn Beck's radio program to complain that they were "sandbagged". That's conservatives code for asking to be held accountable.

- I'm not entirely too certain who's side to take in this whole Flotilla episode, but when you have the Israeli government conducting the study of the "peace keeper's" actions, I'm detecting just a tiny bit of conflict-of-interest. Of course they are going to allege that they have terrorist ties, it fits their narrative all too nicely.


- Here's something for the brain to chew on. Right now, out of the 24 pieces on the front page of Michelle Malkin's blog, only half were written by her. She's been doing this a lot lately. And while I'm sure even The Purse Lipped Rage Princess needs a break now and again, I'm starting to get the feeling that she's working on another book. Perhaps it's about how conservatives didn't do as well in the mid-term elections as they thought. After all, that "Culture Of Corruption" book came out VERY FAST after Obama won the Presidency. Just sayin.
