Under The Bus With Thee

Somebody's enraged The Purse Lipped One.

Do you agree with Keene and Norquist’s views on national security and immigration enforcement?

Because in the name of “constitutional conservatism,” Keene and Norquist support the Obama/Democrat majority approach of civilian trials for terrorists. And in the name of “constitutional conservatism,” Norquist supports de facto open borders and dangerous pandering to Muslim grievance-mongers.

And Malkin's also pissed that these two agree with housing terrorists at the maximum security prison in Thompson, Illinois.

My, what a lovely Tea Party. Such great snack time entertainment.

Then Malkin forgets her boiling hatred for John McCain ( whom she constantly lambasts for his stance of immigration reform ) and points to her dreamboat Scott Brown as a voice of reason. Has she forgotten that Brown came right out after he was elected and stated he would not only campaign for McCain but that he was his model for what a conservative politicians should be? Uh, oh. Someone's not paying attention.

GOP MA Sen. Scott Brown opposes civilian trials for jihadists and made it a key campaign item. The Republican leadership on Capitol Hill opposes civilian trials for jihadists. A majority of Americans oppose civilian trials for jihadists. And it’s a sure bet that the vast majority of grass-roots activists at CPAC oppose civilian trials for jihadists.

Which makes them all “scaremongers” who oppose “constitutional conservatism,” I guess.

In the end, Malkin has her teeth in a twist over the predictably pathetic Mount Vernon Statement because it isn't wingnutty enough for her. The "constitutional conservative" meme will only get you so far. You've got to go full bore if you want Malkin to put on a metaphorical "ping-pong-ball" show for you. That's how you know you've won her heart.

The Distance Between Them

Here's another clip of Tony Perkins whining.

I completely understand that one doesn't have to be a Republican to be a "conservative", but the reality of our current socio-political climate is that "conservativism" has become a fringe ideology, almost a theology to a certain degree. And those that claim to hold these ideals are primarily Republicans.

For all of Perkin's lofty rhetoric, he is largely ignoring the fact that conservative practices have been a plague on this nation, save the practices of Bill Clinton ( budget surplus, strong economy, welfare rolls shrank ) since those that espouse them rarely put them into practice. It's what these alleged conservative champion do act upon that has caused many of the troubles we face today.

It's already been pointed out to the Tea Baggers by their princess, Sarah Palin, that they will have to choose a political party in the upcoming elections. Who do you think they are going to choose, Tony?

The Across The Street Statement

Poor wingnuts couldn't get their gimmick to work the way they wanted.

A lot's been made of the conservative signing later today of "The Mount Vernon Statement" -- the right's "restatement of Constitutional conservatism."

But it turns out that not only is today's signing taking place several miles away from the actual Mount Vernon -- 4.4 miles by car, by our count -- but conservatives asked to sign their declaration at the real Mount Vernon, and were denied.

Melissa Wood, media relations manager for Mount Vernon, tells us that the conservative group "did make a formal request to use Mount Vernon for this announcement. The request by the Mount Vernon Statement group was denied due to Mount Vernon's events policy."

Conservatives love to co-opt history when they think it will suit them best. Bravo to the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association for telling the villagers they will have to have their little "tea party signature fest" elsewhere.

I'm almost certain that this will come up during CPAC. Will conservatives now claim that the policies of hosting gatherings at Mount Vernon have a "liberal bias"? I wouldn't put it passed them.

Declarative Nonsense

It appears that some conservatives are going to get together somewhere and make a big deal out of some "manifesto" that sounds like the same old same old. But don't tell them that.

Among the conservative leaders involved in the Mount Vernon Statement were Edwin Meese III; Becky Norton Dunlop, a Heritage Foundation vice president and Reagan administration official; American Conservative Union Chairman David A. Keene, who also heads CPAC; Reagan administration Labor Department official Patrick Pizzella; Heritage Foundation President Edwin J. Feulner; Family Research Council President Tony Perkins; Media Research Center President Brent Bozell; and Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist.

( h/t Right Wing Watch )

Here's an excerpt:

"Some insist that America must change, cast off the old and put on the new. But where would this lead -- forward or backward, up or down? Isn't this idea of change an empty promise or even a dangerous deception?

"The change we urgently need, a change consistent with the American ideal, is not movement away from but toward our founding principles. At this important time, we need a restatement of Constitutional conservatism grounded in the priceless principle of ordered liberty articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

"The conservatism of the Declaration asserts self-evident truths based on the laws of nature and nature's God. It defends life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It traces authority to the consent of the governed. It recognizes man's self-interest but also his capacity for virtue."

Talk about glittering generalities.

This is standard fare for the conservative movement, speak about how the "Founders" would be so distraught with the direction that nation has taken without given any detailed outline as to what should, could, and can be done to put the nation "back on track".

Is this to be connected with the Tea Bagger movement? Is this intended to stand alone in the hopes that it will be adopted by the Tea Baggers? Is this really anything different than what has been said by these people before? No.
