Weekend College Radio Classic feat. Skinny Puppy

The Process, Skinny Puppy's final LP ( as the original line-up ) in 1996 had Key, Ogre, and Gottel venturing into a more mainstream format in some aspects than at any other time in their career. However, this did not stop them from venturig into areas that many others within the genre would not have thought of.

Candle, the debut single, was a prime example. Still, the unique tones, noise, and lyrics are unique to Puppy. Sadly, D.R. Gottel died of a heroine overdose just months before release of The Process.

Interesting to note are the connections with other bands around the name The Process.

Way Back In 68 - No, Wait - Wrong Date

Today is the anniversary of the Kent State Massacre. And, while some will think of the song "Ohio" by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - with the reference to "tin soldies", I am reminded of Skinny Puppy's track "Tin Omen"

Early Morning Music Sessions feat The Tear Garden

Edward Ka-Spel ( The Legendary Pink Dots ) and Cevin Key ( of Skinny Puppy and Download ) have been musical influences in my life for many years. They're a band well worth checking out.

Mid Monday Video Classic : Nine Inch Nails - Broken ( Longform )

Part music video, part snuff-film, all ahead of it's time.

I can remember the first time I saw this. It was before everyone had a DVD player - the copy I came across was on a black, labeless VHS tape. Looking back, it was almost like the tape in the movie "The Ring".

To me, this was Trent Reznor's finest work - not yet to be duplicated.

New Skinny Puppy Album Out Soon

Skinny Puppy has been one of my favorite bands for the last 14 years. It's strange to look at it in those terms, considering the fact that I first heard of them when I started college. In other words, I'm starting to feel a little old.

Anyhow, I just found out that they have a new album coming out the end of this month.

If there is one thing that Puppy has done with as much passion as creating their own unique brand of music, it's their ability to bring various and powerful subjects ( animal cruelty, political injustice, etc ) to the forefront so that their fanbase can become active in their own ways. One great example of this was the concert DVD called Skinny Puppy - The Greater Wrong of the Right. It marked the release of the first LP that Puppy had completed since 1996's The Process. That album also marked the final collaboration that Key and Ogre would have with D.R. Gottel ( who died from a heroin overdose ).

If you've never listened to any Skinny Puppy, you're in for more suprises than you can handle. The new album should prove no different.

Here's one of my favorite tracks off the Process LP : Candle
