Really?

Scooting around Hawaii last week, President Obama broke one more historic barrier by setting a new benchmark for the limits of presidential casual wear.

He was wearing flip-flops.

Historians agreed it was the first time they could remember seeing the leader of the free world snapped in a public setting, wearing nothing more than a flimsy strip of rubber on his feet.

While Ronald Reagan was famously snapped strutting on his way to Camp David in his cowboy boots and John F. Kennedy was no stranger to sailing in his deck shoes, the picture of Obama tooling around an ice-cream shop with his toes on full display seems be a first for the presidency.

Now while I will freely admit that there have been some pointless jabs at modern conservative politicos like Sarah Palin, but doesn't it tell you something about the state of widely circulated conservative media ( and the upper tier reactionary bloggers that repeat it ) that think this is "newsworthy"?

This does, however, continue the easily debunked and laughably ignorant claims that all Obama does is go on "vacation". While Bush spent the majority of his time in actually "recreational" settings prior to this country being confronted with the worst domestic attack since Pearl Harbor, conservatives have gone full tilt in doing any and everything they could - including bending the very rules of reality - to insist that Obama has spent little to no time acting as President.

Their laughably sophomoric antics have, in recent months, been no better than this.

Bring In The Jew Special Effects Team

As if on cue, Palin is allegedly set to make Jerusalem an giant conservative stage prop - all just in time to announce her 2012 presidential bid.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is planning a trip to the Holy Land sometime this spring, New York Post columnist Cindy Adams reports.

Palin’s Jerusalem visit will occur before the April 29 wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, presumably to avoid the international media’s obsession with British royalty, the Page Six gossiper says.

Adams speculates that it may be the first of several international trips for Palin, who was Arizona GOP Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential running mate in 2008.

A high-profile visit to Israel could help bolster Palin’s foreign policy credentials in advance of a possible 2012 GOP presidential run. There’s no word yet on Palin’s specific itinerary, or which VIPs she’ll meet there.

It’s not the first time a possible overseas tour by Palin has grabbed headlines. In December, The Daily Beast site reported that an overseas trip was in the works for Palin to visit England and Israel.

And while the timing of the trip is given a healthy does of spin from Rupert Murdoch's tabloid rag The NY Post, I don't doubt that Palin and her handlers wanted all eyes to be on her when and if this goes down.

It does make a great deal of sense, as her Fox"News" employers are certainly ramping up the "Holy War" talking points in relation to the Middle East and a potential escalation of American involvement. Of course, as I've stated before, conservatives and Fox want this to be an American Jihad. What better way to rally the reactionary conservative base than to have Palin "on the ground" and then ask "why didn't Obama go to Jerusalem before then?"

Theatre of the Absurd at it's best.

Sexual Politics Of Race

In which there is more race baiting over at Fox"Nation", supplied by the Murdock-owned New York Post

White people report having less sex than members of other races, according to a study released Monday on ethnicity and sleeping habits in America. However, they don’t have the least amount, the study found.

According to The National Sleep Foundation’s 2010 Sleep in America, African-Americans and Hispanics are more likely to report having sex. Ten percent of blacks and Hispanics responded that they had sexual relations every night or almost every night in the one hour before going to sleep. Four percent of whites answered the same, compared to 1 percent of Asians.

I'm not entirely sure that the study that was intended to find or how the results were going to be used, but this is a classic example of how racial animus flourishes within the conservative community.

Look at all the welfare recipients, Mostly black or hispanic. They push out the kids and then don't bother to parent them. White people work, raise a family and take care of their own business. We are tired from living a full,respondsible life. My husband and i are very happy with our lives, thank you very much.

Former Hooker Now In Employ Of News Corp

Ruupert Murdock's "news" outlets are largely populated with tabloid-style stories and "pretty-gimmicky" women anchors and pundits. So, it's no surprise that Ashley Dupree is now on the NewsCorp payroll:

That would be Ashley Dupre, the former call girl whose tryst with former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer led to his resignation last year.

The New York Post has hired the 24-year-old to write a weekly advice column dealing with sex and relationships.

The column in Sunday's paper is illustrated with photos of Dupre wearing glasses and a conservative suit, along with a half-unbuttoned blouse and 6-inch heels.

One reader asks if she needs to tell her boyfriend how many men she's slept with.

Dupre's answer: "It's really none of his business (and vice versa)."

A spokesman for the Post did not answer a call seeking comment.

While the "whore for NewsCorp" joke would be far too easy to make, it should be noted that the paper that Ms. Dupre now works for isn't exactly a reputable one to begin with. But what does her new career say about Murdock's media empire and how it views the women that work within it? The answer really isn't one that you're likely to hear conservatives talk about. But considering the very real fact that charges of sexism are continually leveled by the women that work for NewsCorp against other, more reliable news agencies, it's rather ironic that they are willing to get paid by a company that seemingly only hires one type of woman.

Beck's Militant Fanbase Begins To Reveal Itself

In yet another example of the insane rhetoric and lies of the fringe conservative Right fanning the flames of idiocy within their viewing audience, Nancy Genovese ( and rabid Glenn Beck fan ) was arrested at the Air National Guard base in the Hamptons.

A Long Island mother of three -- armed to the teeth with an assault rifle and shotgun -- was arrested for scouting out and taking pictures of an Air National Guard base in the Hamptons, authorities said.

Suffolk County Undersheriff Joseph Caracappa said Nancy Genovese, 53, of Quogue, was arrested for trespassing outside the Gabreskie Airport ANG facility Thursday night, and Homeland Security and the FBI are also investigating.

Taking a brief look at groups Genovese also aligns herself with, they don't all seem to gel with her ideological bent.

The self-described White Rose Society takes it's name from the intellectual resistance movement in Nazi Germany in the early 1940s. The webiste does contain elements that would fit into Genovese's viewpoints, but they also appear to be anti-Fox"News" at the same time.

Genovese's MySpace blog is something to truly marvel at. From topics such as FEMA, her fear of the US Census, as well as posting videos urging military and police personel to be wary that there are going to be orders passed down for them to confiscate people's guns, there is quite the glut of insanity to pour through.

Had she not been arrested, one can only speculate on how she would have taken Becks comments that the Obama administration is using the "Cash For Clunkers" program to monitor your home computer ( will be posting more on that topic later today ).

Skimming through her Twitter timeline, it becomes clear that she follows along with the "Tea Baggery" nonsense and may be prone to fits of rage while watching TV:

Other groups she aligns herself with openly advocate for the impeachment of Obama, as well as subscribe to birther, and 9/11 conspiracy theory. And, not suprisingly, two people that keep showing up in each of these groups are Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. Glowing praise is heaped upon each of them. It's quite an interesting, yet disturbing, series of pages to read.

Apparently Levi Johnston can write too:

And when your source is "Tank" then you know you've got some solid intel on the Palin clan.

Seriously, can these people get any more white-trash without all moving into a trailer?

With Palin's recent threats about filing suit against any and all that defame or slander her and her family, is this really the move that Levi wants to take? Moreover, if he wants to have a more active role in his child's life, he needs to at least maintain a modest amount of civility.

While this book - hopefully written in something other than crayon - will likely cater to those that are more concerned with what sexual position Bristol favored than what life was like dating the daugher of a political figure, it's a safe bet that publishing houses will pay top dollar for this no matter how poorly it is written.

Dear God, It Could Get Worse

Not that I give TVNewser all that much credit to being with, but now we're hearing from an even lesser credible source - The NY Post's Page 6 - that Rudy Giuliani is angling for the coveted O'Reilly radio show gig.

EVERYONE knows Bill O'Reilly is quitting his radio show to concentrate on his Fox News TV program. Now, Page Six has learned the leading candidate to succeed him is Rudy Giuliani (above). Westwood One, which syndicates the O'Reilly show, is negotiating with the former mayor. Giuliani, who doesn't suffer fools gladly, famously ridiculed a ferret owner on the radio in 1999, calling him "deranged." Some wonder if Rudy could sit for three hours a day chitchatting about politics. The other question is how it might affect his possible gubernatorial run in 2010. Giuliani's office did not return calls.

If Rudy does get the gig, it's sure to be nothing more than a continual discussion of Sept. 11th and how he was "right there when it all happened".

Infomercial Experts?

Ed Morrissey is known to stretch as far as he can in order to make a point. His of critique Barack Obama's 30 minute campaign special is no different.

When one program dominates its time slot by simulcasting on five different networks, the producers obviously intend on making it must-see TV. Barack Obama’s infomercial fell far short. Despite its multiple platforms, it could only garner 21.7% of the households in the US. The debates drew far more:

He then sites a NY Post article which quotes 2 "informercial experts":

Two leading infomercial stars agree: Barack Obama’s half-hour self-promotion last night was a flop.
“I don’t see enough smiling. Doom and gloom totally,” said Anthony Sullivan, one of the biggest names in infomercial history.
“I feel depressed right now,” added Sullivan, an Englishman famous for his infomercials touting the Swivel Sweeper and Smart Chopper. The only thing saving Obama, Sullivan said, was when the candidate appeared live at the end speaking at a rally in Florida. …
He and AJ Khubani, who has produced infomercials for 25 years, said Obama also fell short of offering solutions to the dire problems he laid out.
“I didn’t see a payoff. Classic infomercial is you show the before and you show the after. I didn’t see the music or the crashing waves of the Pacific,” Sullivan said.

Are you serious?

Yeah, let's be all upbeat about a failing economy, people losing jobs, families without healthcare, and have this sacrine-like, sweet, fakeness that is pervasive in just about all "infomercials".

So, we are to believe that 2 guys that sell cheep, tacky, crap on late-night television have the background to critique an ad that is about helping people decide who the next President should be.

A Spy From The NY Post?!?!

Rupert Murdock is a businessman.

He's also unblushingly conservative.

He owns many papers in the US and abroad, as well as television stations, movie-production companies, and MySpace.

Keith Olbermann works for MSNBC.

He doesn't like Rupert Murdock, NewsCorp, Fox"News" or anything owned by Murdock.

He's obviously a progressive type-of-guy and approaches stories on his show with jounalistic integrity that his many detractors only wish they could possess.

The NYPost ( Page 6 ) ran this story about Olbermann, MSNBC, and MySpace:

KEITH Olbermann is again being an embarrassment to MSNBC. The cable channel and MySpace have teamed up to choose two "citizen journalist" correspondents to cover the upcoming national political conventions. The "journalists" will be featured both on MySpace and MSNBC's campaign coverage. A spy said, "Every anchor is onboard and willing to play along, except Keith. He refuses to participate because MySpace is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp." - which also owns Fox News and The Post. A rep for Olbermann said, "There are no plans for the contest winners to be on any programs other than 'Morning Joe.' "

A spy? Did I read that right, a spy?!?!

Wow, I mean, are we talking 007 style or just some intern that Rich Johnson paid $20 to under-the-table to find something out? Was it made up?

I'm opting for the latter.

This is not the first time that "Page 6" has tried to create a controversy around Olbermann. There's been a longtime rivalry between Olbermann and everyone in Murdock's NewsCorp empire, but to try and paint the man as an "embarassment" simply because he doesn't want anything to do with a NewsCorp-owned company is pretty lame.

It's standard-operating-proceedure for the right-wing media to play fast-and-loose with the facts. When you don't have facts, the only thing left to do is just make it up as you go along.

It was no suprise to many that Page 6 of the NY POST ran a story that Olbermann and Chris Matthews were vying for Tim Russert's job on the day of his funeral.

Well, Olbermann let loose the truth - the kryptonite to the conservative propoganda machine.



You know, the far-right media is rather like a puppy with a new chew toy. They'll flail it about, knawing away, dragging it across the house, until i scarcely resembles its true form.

To falsely accuse an acutal journalist with lies is one thing, but to use the occassion of the death of Tim Russert is beyond unforgivable.
