Cashing In

Seems that Sarah Palin is going to get a reality show and potentially get a big payday in the process.

Sources say A&E Networks and Discovery Communications want to acquire Palin's project, which focuses on the ex-governor giving a guided tour of her native Alaska -- visiting fishing boats and taking a trip to a gold mine, to cite a couple of examples. Mark Burnett is executive producer of the project, whose working title is "Sarah Palin's Alaska."

A&E Networks hasn't officially put in a bid for the show, but sources indicate that the company is interested in the project for several of its brands -- A&E, History or Lifetime.

But here's the kicker:

The former vice presidential candidate is asking for between $1 million and $1.5 million per episode, a hefty amount for a first-year cable series.

And while the Huffington Post headline for this calls the program "Sarah Palin's Alaska", I have to question whether that is going to be the title of the show or not - as Palin pretty much sent a big "fuck you" to the entire state last year when she quit as Governor. Not only that, and if that is the real title of the show, which procuder(s) did she have to pay off in order to get the show titled after her. It's not your state lady, it's "the people's state" - to borrow a phrase from your once favorite Massachusetts Senator.

But the money thing really bothers me here.

Who in the hell does Palin think she is to allegedly demand such an absurd amount of cash per episode. Does this woman's sense of entitlement know no bounds? Likely not, since you have to literally pay her if you want to stand next to her.

Here's an exit question: If Palin uses the money raised by this program ( if it even airs ) to fund her political career, is this protected under the Citizen's United ruling?

THIS....... IS........... SPARTACUS!!!!

This looks to be fucking choice.

( h/t to Calvin's Canadian Cave Of Cool )

It's obvious that this new series from Starz is biting on Zack Snyder's directorial stylings from 300, but it looks to be quite the homage to his trendsetting film. Now, I guess I need to add Starz to my cable line-up. Dang.

Because We Do Love A Trainwreck

As a population that thrives off visual and auditory stimulation - we love images of people getting kicked in the crotch, vehicles on fire, fights, animal attack, trainwrecks, and drunk women from the south cursing at law enforcement officials - we will watch just about anything if we think something "interesting" is going to happen.

These habits are easily recordable and provide insight into what programs the American public will and won't watch.

Neilson has been doing a great job of this for years.

However, it's their data that has been seriously misread.

Now that the RNC has completed their little party up in Minnesota, conservative bloggers and pundits are touting the rating figures of John McCain's speech as if they are a signifier that he has somehow "won" something.

You see, this is a something that Bill O'Reilly has never understood, and now we see other conservatives taking one fact ( television rating ) and somehow attempting to manipulate that into something completely unrelated and false ( McCain is going to win ).

There are several things that the Neilson ratings don't take into consideration: did the viewer watch the entire program? How much of the program was watched? Did you agree with everything in the program? Would you watch it again?

You see where i'm going.

The Neilson ratings are great at predicting what you'll watch, they aren't made for predicting how you are going to vote.

Weeds : Season 4 : Starts June 16th : 10pm EST

Next to Six Feet Under, Weeds is one of my favorite shows on cable.

After the finale of Season 3, I was sure that it was done for. But, I was wrong:

There's a couple of new characters this season and surely some big suprises to come.

I can't wait!!!
