Vacation For Me But Not For Thee

Ed Morrissey is more of a predictable hack than most people are willing to acknowledge.

His most recent piece on HotAir ( I still love how valid that name is ) accuses Obama of "hiding" in Hawaii while John McCain showed "leadership" - all this in relation to the Georgia / Russia confrontation.

Morrissey's piece reads in part:

The New York Times notices that a completely predictable reversal has taken place between Barack Obama, John McCain, and media coverage. Two weeks ago, the national media followed Obama devotedly as he toured Europe, straining to capture every word on what they considered a historic event. Now, though, the media has awakened to truly historical events in the Caucasus, and McCain has commanded their attention with his leadership — while Obama hides in Hawaii

Wait just a tick, did Ed just quote "the enemy" - The New York Times!?!?!

Yeah, he did.

The blatant spin for McCain goes even further as Morrissey tries to show that Obama is afraid to confront the issue:

McCain spent the week leading the American response in a real way, forcing the White House to catch up. Obama spent the week … body surfing and golfing. For a candidate who already has a confidence deficit on national security and foreign policy among voters, Obama seems strangely disengaged on what is the most crititcal and emergent foreign-policy issue of the campaign. He has taken a strangely passive path, and the contradictory statements by his surrogates have made Obama seem even more vacillating than usual.

Lest we forget, it was McCain that told us that "nations don't invade other nations in the 21st century". He also claims that this is "the first serious international crisis since the Cold War".

That's sound more like ignorance than "leadership".

And, of course we're going to hear a lot from McCain on the Georgia/Russia conflict. McCain does, after all, have lobbyists to consider.

This is all typical tripe from Morrissey anyway.

Obama and his family deserve a brief vacation.

I mean, where was all this righteous indignation when George W. was vacationing the months prior to September 11th. Now that was a vacation that deserved to be complained about.
