However, the last two Punisher films have been less that sparkling examples of how great comics can translate into great films.
1989's Dolph Lundgren, gag-reflex-activating film didn't do Marvel Comics any favors. And 2004's filim featuring John Travolta and Thomas Jane was a big-budget flop.
So, should we expect the same with the upcoming "War Journal"?
The movie stars Ray Stevenson (HBO's Rome) as Frank Castle, a ruthless vigilante who takes aim at mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the "Punisher Task Force" hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.
The upcoming comic-to-film adaptation is a reboot of the franchise which disregards the previous Tom Jane-starring Punisher flick, which many fans felt softened the character up too much.
Considering the "raw" nature of the story between Frank Castle and Jigsaw, this film could be head-and-shoulders above previous efforts. If true to the comic, i'm looking for War Journal to actually be more than worth the ticket-price.
