And while the new talking point going around the conservative areas of Twitter is that this is all in the name of "transparency", seeing as how the current administration will never be transparent enough for these people, and has nothing to do with either xenophobia, racial divisiveness, and conspiracy.
But as Think Progress rightly points out, Sarah Palin made the argument that she was being put under duress because of silly, pointless, and conspiratorial scrutiny the veritable cornerstone of her resignation:
Every one — all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn’t been cheap — the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research” — that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers — or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction” … Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn’t cost them a dime so they’re not going to stop draining public resources – spending other peoples’ money in their game.
It’s pretty insane — my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more “politics as usual,” but THIS isn’t what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.
Sarah Palin, ever eager to seek out new ways to complain about President Obama, will continue to align herself with the lowest common denominator if it means that she can improve her Q score or get even a modest amount of media attention. Her hypocrisy is also greatly increased by doing this as well.
While the pointlessness of the conspiratorial nonsense surrounding the birth of Trigg was rightly dismissed by conservatives, the way in which they openly embrace Palin's acceptance of the Birther movement makes one wonder if they know which way is up and which way is down. Because if they are looking for direction and leadership from Sarah Palin, they are in for a long ride, as she has yet to produce anything resembling an original thought since her appearance on the national stage.
