Lowered Expectations

There's a theme that is running through the conservative Republican realm. It has been noticable from time to time, in how a pundit speaks about Palin, how a blog is written around how she has answered or refused to answer questions. It was subtle at first, but it was still there.

This morning, it was shouted from the hypothetical moutaintop - Republicans are willing to "settle" for Palin and they are not embarassed to talk about it.

Picture a young man, not to sure of himself, a more than just a little awkward when it comes to women. He's always had his sights on the captian of the cheerleading squad. He's been pushed around, teased, taunted, ridiculed, and mocked. He didn't get the girl he wanted, so he's going to settle on the nerdy chick from physics class.

She a bit frumpy, equally as awkward as him, snorts when she laughs, and walks with a noticable limp. She might not be perfect, but she'll do for now - until something else comes along.

This is how conservative Republicans are treating Palin.

She's so pathetically "sweet" that it sets your teeth on edge.

Everytime she says, "tanks but no tanks", you almost want to puke. But you can't. You almost want to tell her to just stand there and not say anything, but you know she's going to put her foot in her mouth at some point. She has to talk. She's your girl. She's all you got.

Conservative Republicans will now espouse Palin as the model which their daughters, neices, and sisters should pattern themselves after. They are willing to substitute "style" over substance, a wink and a smile for debate. They are settling for Sarah Palin.

To read their words or hear their voices, you would think they had just seen the rapture. You would think that something miraculous had happened and we - the rest of us - had somehow missed it.

You almost feel sorry for them.

You know that, one day, their going to wake up in the middle of the night and sit up and feel that cold, sharp, shock and say, "I can't believe I settled for her".
