God's Definition Of Love
The Westboro Baptist Church is a fascinating lot.
They encompass the most fringe stereotypes that the Right has of the Left, and vice-versa, and blends them together in seemless, choreographed, movements complete with picket-sign slogans.
You'll likely find them at many funerals for soldiers. But recently, they were at the White House shouting about Jack van Impe's favorite subject - The Anti-Christ and the end of the world.
Various videos can be found at Campus Progress, but this one stood out:
It's a classic example of many of the hypocritical theorums within the radical, fundamentalist-religious, movement. The cheif of which is indoctrication.
And this, from my perspective, seems to be what seperates progressives from the Right-Wing within society. It is an example that is manifested at its most lunatic-fringe height.
Buy strict definition, progress means to learn from your mistakes and grow. The Right, and their conservative ideoloy, tend not to learn from mistakes, but would rather ignore those missteps and cast aspersion on those that they disagree with.
What are the people within the WBC attempting to do - aside from offend people from both sides of the aisle?
The two young ladies in the video are examples of ignorance run amok. And they are more than willing to display that same ignorance as if it were divine scripture.
How do people get to such a point?
The one thing that gets me is when I hear people say this - what if they are right?

Righteous Indignation
Bill O'Reilly is all in a lather over a Spanish lawyer wanting to bring charges against Bush administration officials.
From Media Matters
How dare someone in Spain have their own opinions!
All this reminds me of Bill failed boycott of France.
I think the most laughable part of this whole prattling nonsense that is Bill equates insulting America with being against George Bush.
It's ill-informed voices like Bill O'Reilly's that have caused other countries to have such a poor opinion of America. I'm sure that Spain will be simply crestfallen, now O'Reilly has threatened to never travel there.
Kind of invalidates his "just one of the folks" label he likes to afix to himself. How many people do you know that have travelled to Spain or can even afford to?

O'Reilly Has To Think And Look At Things
Way to hold Bill's feet to the fire ladies.
I would have at least expected Whoopi to say something.
I wouldn't put it past O'Reilly's handlers to have warned the producers of The View that he not be questioned about his comments about Jennifer Moore and him advocating the stalking of Amanda Terkel.

I was watching Kids and Gummo this weekend and I realized that Chloe has become an amazing actress. I'm still kicking myself for not having seen any of the HBO series Big Love.

The Grand Obstructionist Party
From Manu Raju @ Politico
And while this circus of ideology, on Coleman's part, the voting populous of Minnesota are being denied their second vote in the Senate.
Coleman appears to have lost any desire to represent his are of the state - if he ever had any to begin with - in an attempt to make Franken look like a fool. Perhaps that was Franken's initally want as well - but I seriously doubt that now.
I'll conceed the point enough to admit that Franken was initially a comedian, but it also must be pointed-out that the man has an intelligence and a passion to make his area of Minnesota better. He seems to genuinely want to represent the people there. But the comedian label is going to be hard to shake until he gets seated and can prove that he's got the chops.
At times, it seems as if Coleman is wanting this case to press on to the SCOTUS. But, after the mess they created in 2000 with Bush vs. Gore, they aren't going to come near this one.
Texas Sen. John Cornyn is threatening “World War III” if Democrats try to seat Al Franken in the Senate before Norm Coleman can pursue his case through the federal courts.
Cornyn, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, acknowledges that a federal challenge to November’s elections could take “years” to resolve. But he’s adamant that Coleman deserves that chance — even if it means Minnesota is short a senator for the duration.
A three-judge panel is expected to rule any day now on legal challenges to the November election.
Coleman attorney Joe Friedberg has predicted that Franken will be on top after the court rules, arguing that an appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court could swing the election back in Coleman’s favor.
But what if that doesn’t happen?
Nobody really knows

That's What She Said
Perhaps it a bit sophomoric, but there should be more talk like this between our elected officials.
Bachman And Hannity Make A Great Pair
Michelle Bachman took her lie about the Obama administration and "global currency" to Sean Hannity's radio show:
What is this "oderly revolution" that she is talking about?
The Republican party isn't exactly "orderly" right now anyway. How can they expect their constituancy to be as such when they are more concerned with blocking anything the Democratic party does. They have no plans. The Republicans that managed to keep their seats won their respective elections stayed on simply because the voters knew they would be obstuctionists.
Strange that Bachman, and all like here within her party, are suddenly concerned with fiscal responsibility.
This woman is certifiable. How is it that she was even elected in the first place?

Well, That Didn't Take Them Long
As soon as I heard Sec. Of State Hillary Clinton talk about how America is partially to blame for drug cartel violence, I was curious as to when the right-wingers would chime in.
And then Warner Todd Huston cranks it to 11.
Clinton said that America shares the blame. And that is a fact.
Here she is discussing this statement on CNN:
It's a fact that is you have something to sell, no matter whether it's drugs or not, you are going to go where the demand is. There have been drugs coming into the country from Mexico since before any of us can remember.
And the paranoid delusional ramblings that Obama is going to systematically disarm America is almost too laughable to discuss. It is, however, a classic example of conservative fearmongering.
The larger point of all this, is that people like Huston are operating under the notion that America is a completely virginal country that is perfect. Drugs come here and are forced up us. America doesn't smuggle products into other countries. I may be cynical at times, but I'm not so blinded by ideology to think that my country has no imperfections.
Mexican government officials are in the pocket of Mexican drug lords. Members of the Mexican military lend their support to Mexican drug lords. Mexican police double deal by being footsoldiers for Mexican drug lords at the same time they work for the various states. It’s all a great, corrupt mess down there.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s message to Mexico? It’s America’s fault.
And then Warner Todd Huston cranks it to 11.
And as the violence in Mexico begins to leak across the border into our southwestern states, what is Barack Obama’s idea to help? He wants to disarm our own people by raising the specter of “assault rifles,” a term that has no real meaning, and by re-instituting the “assault weapons” ban in the U.S.
So, another country’s internal corruption and internecine violence is our fault according to Obama and Clinton. And we are going to disarm ourselves in the face of foreign violence to “solve” the problem? Apparently, we are the ones the Mexicans have been waiting for, too. At least we are the ones that Mexican drug lords have been waiting for, anyway.
Clinton said that America shares the blame. And that is a fact.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says America's insatiable demand for illegal drugs and inability to stop weapons smuggling into Mexico are fueling an alarming spike in violence along the U.S.-Mexican border.
Clinton said today the Obama administration acknowledges that the United States shares responsibility with Mexico for dealing with the violence. She said the administration will work with Mexican authorities to improve security on both sides of the border.

Not So Much An Alternative
.....as it is a repackaged collection of glittering generalities and talking points.
I'm speaking of the GOP's version of the budget proposal.
The conservative blogging community is all abuzz over this, claiming that they now have some sort of moral high-ground since the GOP has stepped-up to Obama's challenge to provide and alternative.
At a thin 19 pages, you can read through this in less time than it takes to eat your lunch - and you may wish to wait to eat after you read it.
The talk started yesterday.
Jeff Emanuel at RedState:
Then, the media started asking questions:
The GOP's "response" comes off much like a slap-dash book report from a student who hasn't even read the book. This proposal doesn't even meet the standards of Cliff-Notes.
And just like the kid who turns in a failing report, the GOP's proposal is already starting to get the failing grade.
Not because the alternative proposal is so thin and lacking in substance, but because the GOP loves to grandstand so much:

Jeff Emanuel at RedState:
And, last night, in a move reminiscent of his actions during the actual campaign, Obama threw down the figurative gauntlet to detractors from his $3,600,000,000,000.00 spending plan, saying “To a bunch of the critics out there, I’ve already said, show me your budget! I’m happy to have that debate.”
If this sounds familiar, it’s because he repeatedly made such bold declarations while on the campaign trail. Of course, he always made sure he was a safe distance from Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), his opponent for the office, when doing so, as he never had any intention of actually following through on his own tough-talking challenge
Then, the media started asking questions:

Not because the alternative proposal is so thin and lacking in substance, but because the GOP loves to grandstand so much:
The 19-page document, prepared by Pence's office, was distributed two days after President Obama criticized Republicans for trashing his detail-crammed 142-page budget outline without producing a credible alternative.
“In his egocentric rush to get on camera, Mike Pence threw the rest of the Conference under the bus, specifically Paul Ryan, whose staff has been working night and day for weeks to develop a substantive budget plan," said a GOP aide heavily involved in budget strategy.
"I hope his camera time was gratifying enough to justify erasing the weeks of hard work by dozens of Republicans to put forth serious ideas," the person added.
"It's categorically untrue," said Pence spokesman Matt Lloyd. "Cantor as well as Ryan and the rest of the leadership have been part of this process for weeks. They not only signed off on it, but their staffs helped edit it."

That's right, no oversight for banks, for companies like AIG, or reform of the health-care industry. Republicans want to have control over Michelle Obama.
Yes, I know they are claiming that this is not about her, but who do they think they are fooling?
Let's just get to the story, and then you'll know what I mean by my title.
House Republicans are pressing for a change in federal law that could force Michelle Obama and future first ladies to do more of their policy work in public. But Democrats warn President Obama may take the attempt personally “as an attack on his wife.”
The GOP effort is being led by the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), whose initial salvo was rebuffed recently at a contentious committee markup session. Under Issa’s amendment, any government policy group that Mrs. Obama or another first spouse regularly participates in would be subject to a law requiring meetings to be announced in advance and, in most instances, public.

One is almost getting the sense that Bill O'Reilly knows that his ratings are in danger, now that Glenn Beck is at Fox"News".
Probably won't be long before Beck heads to prime-time. And why wouldn't Ailes and Moody put him there. His material is a combination of conspiracy theory, primal scream therapy - only he cries instead of shouts, and old-style carnival freak-show.
Apparently, this teleprompter prattling is getting to Beck.
So now that O'Reilly has been taken to task regarding his comments about rape victims and then advocating the stalking of a blogger across state lines, he's ready to show his audience ( and perhaps his employers ) that his brand of crazy is Teh Awesum!!!
Did you catch all that?
There is one thing I can say about O'Reilly, he's really good about creating an elaborate, and nonexistant, grouping of individuals that he insists are hell-bent on destroying America. And all this to keep people from realizing that he says things that he later regrets. Just don't expect him to express that regret.

Here's Something To Ponder
Been reading quite a bit of prattling nonsense about how "China is calling for a new world-reserve currency to replace the dollar".
I'm not really one to understand business or the economy, but if the dollar is no longer the standard by which all other currencies are judged, isn't that going to completely invalidate ( or at least lessen to a HUGE degree ) all the invested interests China has in the US?
Am I looking at this wrong?

Rush Limbaugh recently referred to Barack Obama as Barack Ogabe.
But Rush isn't the first one to draw this comparison.

Oh, we almost forgot. In the middle of that rant about the British adviser, he "confus[ed]" Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe "with a well-known Kenyan named Barack Ogabe," saying: "Please forgive me. I did not intend that slip-up to be made. Barack Ogabe and Robert Mugabe, at least in human structure, are two different people. I don't know about policy."

Goldman Sachs is planning to give back its TARP money soon. Very soon, actually — ideally within the next month, according to people involved in the process. That’s a much quicker timetable than the end-of-year goal previously set out by Lloyd C. Blankfein, Goldman Sachs’s chief executive. As taxpayers, we should be thrilled that Goldman is going to quickly pay back the $10 billion it was given last October, right?

The Soft Tyranny Of Revisionist History
I was watching the multual-masturbation interview between Sean Hannity and Mark Levin last night while I was working on some writing. I felt like I needed to take a shower after it was over.
Didn't realize that he was on Fox And Friends earlier in the day. This afforded Levin the opportunity to have Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy give his undercarriage a nice licking.
Media Matters has put this video up today.
It's amazing how well Fox"News" has stayed "on message" with their FDR talking-points.
I've never seen such a coordinated effort by an entire media conglomerate to completely besmirch one of the greatest Presidents of our time.
The underlying theme within not only this video, but all discussions of this nature had by the GOP, Fox personalities, conservative bloggers and pundits, is their struggle to find out why their tilted ideology isn't working.
"Who are we?" is the constant question that they are all asking.
It's not so much a struggle to find their own identity, but a struggle to find a way to provide supplication to themselves. Their massive loses - across the country on multiple political levels, not just in the Presidential election - has turned the entire party on it's ear.
They simply don't know how to act when they are not in the catbird seat.
And, as such, their current position has exposed them to such a degree, that their very words and actions are often-times counter-productive - just look at what Micheal Steele has done to the party.
Levin is a classic example of a political movement that has no convictions to stand on. He has to "reinvent" who he is in order to distance himself from his failed theories and all the hackery that he espoused as "truth".
Part of that is blaming the ills of the country on those that did any and everything within their power to help that same country that Levin, and those like him, has systematically destroyed.

It's probably the greatest right-wing tool they have - the anonymous citiation.
It has a variety of variations. Most of the time you'll likely hear "some say" or "some people say". O'Reilly LOVES to use this. The upside of it is, he never has to prove it. He'll deflect, project, infer, transpose, and even cajole in order to keep from tell what his anonymous source is.

But How Did They Find Her?
Amanda Terkel, blogger for Think Progress, was ambushed after she wrote about O'Reilly's comments directed toward a rape victim and his being offered to keynote a fundraiser for the foundation.
* as an interesting sidenote, you'll notice that for an additional $75 you could have your picture taken with O'Reilly and get your book signed. pathetic *
Amanda then became the latest victim of O'Reilly's selective, moral outrage and he sent his mouth-agape stalker - Jesse Waters - to ambush her while she was on vacation. But, the story doesn't end there:
The question I want to know is how did they find out where she lived?
It's a given that O'Reilly is quite frightened of a woman with an opinion that is unafraid to voice it. But when you use your "connections" to find out where a person lives and stalk them out of state in order to somehow prove that you are powerful, then perhaps the validity of your program and your career should be questioned.
David Neiwert @ crooksandliars reminds us that this isn't the first time that O'Reilly had made offensive comments about a victim and was asked to speak at a fundraiser that highlighted the plight of those victims:

Watters and his camera man accosted me at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, in Winchester, VA, which is a two-hour drive from Washington, DC. My friend and I were in this small town for a short weekend vacation and had told no one about where we were going. I can only infer that the two men staked out my apartment and then followed me for two hours. Looking back, my friend and I remember seeing their tan SUV following us for much of the trip.
No doubt O'Reilly is still reeling from the embarrassment of a previous case where his grotesquely insensitive remarks came back to haunt him: namely, the Shawn Hornbeck incident, in which O'Reilly first suggested that a boy who had been kept a captive of a child molester for years had somehow "wanted it." As it happened, he was scheduled to speak before a conference for the families of missing kids. The ensuing uproar didn't subside until his appearance was cancelled.

Will someone please explain to me the rationale behind suing someone an irreverant amount of money for downloading a song or film?
Even though I find this practice kind of sad, I would love to hear Barack ( or someone in his administration ) validate this?
The Obama administration for the first time is weighing in on a Recording Industry Association of America file sharing lawsuit and is supporting hefty awards of as much as $150,000 per purloined music track.
The government said the damages range of $750 to $150,000 per violation of the Copyright Act was warranted.

A Plurality Of Ignorance: Teabaggers Think They Know It All
*cross posted at Daily Kos *
Michelle Malkin, and many other bloggers, have extensively covered the "tea-parties".
Malkin, in her latest piece, makes this statement:
That's a bit like asking someone who you've publicly ridiculed numerous times to pay attention to you and give you some type of priority coverage.
Oh, wait. That's EXACTLY what that is.
Malkin's new bit of "please-feel-sorry-for-us" nonsense aside, one has to ask the question - do any of these people that are attending and praising the "sucess" of their tea-parties know anything about economics?
First, you have to look at where these people are getting their information.
Rush Limbaugh, the aforementioned Michelle Malkin, andb blogs such as FreeRepublic, RedState, and HotAir.
So, what is the one thing that none of these people are giving their audience - an alternative, economic, plan.
Rush does offer somewhat of a plan, though it is filled with information that is either false or has been proven to not work:
Limbaugh's getting his "facts" on the corporate tax rate wrong.
From Media Matters
DeocracyNow's Amy Goodman interviews Pulizter Prize winning investigative Journalist David Cy Johnston about the stimulus and specifically references further tax-breaks for corporations
Rush then goes on to state:
But who pays Capital Gains taxes?
Newt Gingrich had the same idea for Capital Gains. Turns out Rush is just as wrong about the idea as Newt was:
Here are a few examples of why Newt and Rush's plans for Capital Gains won't work.
That's the meat of Limbaugh's plan - a plan that won't work.
The remainder of those touting the tea-parties have nothing real to offer to the discussion. It's all "red-meat" prattling that amounts to nothing more than delusional speculation.
Malkin has all sorts of paranoid theories about the stimulus.
She went on Cavuto's "business" program on Fox"News" to discuss her theory that Robert Reich was advocating that stimulus money be kept away from experienced workers and "white-male" construction workers.
Reich even responded.
People like Malkin, Limbaugh, conservative bloggers ( et al ) refuse to listen to anyone with any type of economic background.
Perhaps it's because it's too difficult for them to understand?
I'm guessing yes on that one.
It's far easier to digest and then vomit up neatly packaged "sound-bites". Couple that with buzz-words like "socialism" and "communism" and even "totalitarianism" and you'll have a crowd of people ready and willing to follow you. And they will follow you out of fear, even if it is a fear that is grounded in lies.
And what of those that attend the "te-parties".
What knowledge of the economy do they have?
It's a fairly safe bet that some of them may have some knowledge of economics, but are they attending these rallies out of anything more than a reflexive fear that Obama and the government are "out to get them"?
Nothing but catch-phrases.
Then there are the governors of states that are lambasting the stimulus. Then they turn around and say they will only accept certain portions. Sarah Palin is part of this gang.
Then there's South Carolina Governor Mark Sandford.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
These three, to me, are examples of Republicans that are showing a complete lack of interest in the people within their own states. Why are they only rejecting those speicific portions of the stimulus. Why aren't the "tea-baggers" asking that question?
People are actually dumping teabags into rivers and think that this act is somehow going to help the economy. Actions do often speak truth to power, but what "truth" are they expressing? Are they buying these tea bags? When people started protesting France, they were actually buying the wine they were pouring into storm drains.
Of course, I don't have all the answers either.
Truth of the matter is, I'm willing to admit that I don't know enough about economics. But I'm willing to learn the truth behind something before simply reacting.
It amazes me how so many people who aren't going to have their taxes raised - whether they are self-employed or not - are so willing to be part of the stimulus in the first place.
Perhaps it's a part of their nature. Maybe they have such a strong desire to be a part of something that they give up the ability to think for themselves. Maybe for them, being part of "the crowd" is more important than being informed.
Michelle Malkin, and many other bloggers, have extensively covered the "tea-parties".
Malkin, in her latest piece, makes this statement:
no national wire coverage of these thousands of protesters across the country, but AP covers measly anti-war protest turnout in Washington…
That's a bit like asking someone who you've publicly ridiculed numerous times to pay attention to you and give you some type of priority coverage.
Oh, wait. That's EXACTLY what that is.

Rush does offer somewhat of a plan, though it is filled with information that is either false or has been proven to not work:
I say, cut the U.S. corporate tax rate -- at 35%, among the highest of all industrialized nations -- in half.
Limbaugh's getting his "facts" on the corporate tax rate wrong.
From Media Matters
In its August 2008 report, the GAO estimated that "[t]he average U.S. effective tax rate on the domestic income of large corporations with positive domestic income in 2004 was an estimated 25.2 percent." Further, in its Paying Taxes 2009 publication, based on its 2009 Doing Business report, the World Bank-International Finance Corporation estimated that the United States has a lower effective rate of current corporate tax than several developed economies, including Germany and Italy. Moreover, in June 2007, the Treasury Department concluded: "If special provisions were eliminated, the top corporate tax rate could be lowered to 27 percent or more than 40 percent expensing could be provided to all businesses for new the cost of tangible investments, and the tax system would produce the same level of revenue."
In Paying Taxes 2009: The Global Picture, the World Bank noted that "reducing the statutory rate of corporate income tax has been the most popular government tax reform in the period. However in most of the economies, the case study company does not pay corporate income tax at the statutory rate on its profit before tax, since the tax rules require adjustments to be made to this in order to calculate taxable profits."
DeocracyNow's Amy Goodman interviews Pulizter Prize winning investigative Journalist David Cy Johnston about the stimulus and specifically references further tax-breaks for corporations
DAVID CAY JOHNSTON:....spending—tax cuts have not worked. The Bush tax cuts, all of them were financed with borrowed money. And where did we end up at the end of the Bush administration? If you add up all of the bailouts that the Bush administration did in the fall, the investments, the spending and the guarantees, it’s over $8 trillion. How much money is that? It is more than all of the income taxes paid by all Americans for the entire eight years of the Bush administration.
The fact is that if you don’t fix and maintain roads, you can’t move goods around efficiently, the economy suffers. If you don’t spend money on higher education, on research and development, the economy suffers. This notion that government money is, as a student once said to me, taken out in the ocean and just dumped has to go away. We need to recognize that government, which is the biggest single part of our economy, is absolutely vital, if we’re going have a robust economy. That doesn’t mean there isn’t waste and stupidity. And corporate America has plenty of waste and stupidity, too.
Rush then goes on to state:
Suspend the capital gains tax for a year to incentivize new investment, after which it would be reimposed at 10%.
But who pays Capital Gains taxes?
Fewer than one in seven individual taxpayers report taxable capital gains in any year. In 2006 just 13.4 million out of 138.3 million taxpayers reported taxable net gains (net long-term gains in excess of net short-term capital losses and capital gains distributions, which are taxed at favorable capital gains rates) on Schedule D, and another 4.6 million reported capital gains distributions from mutual funds on their Forms 1040. Many taxpayers with gains had modest incomes ? more than half (52 percent) of those with taxable net gains or capital gains distributions had incomes below $75,000. But high-income taxpayers accounted for the overwhelming share of capital gains (Table 1). The 3 percent of tax returns with adjusted gross income exceeding $200,000 reported 31 percent of AGI and 83 percent of capital gains. The 0.3 percent of returns with AGI exceeding $1 million reported 15 percent of AGI and 61 percent of capital gains. Capital gains represented less than 4 percent of AGI for gains recipients with income less than $200,000, but about 40 percent of AGI for those with income exceeding $1 million.
Many more Americans accrue capital gains on corporate shares they hold within tax-deferred employersponsored retirement saving plans or individual retirement accounts. But capital gains from stock sales within those accounts are not subject to capital gains tax. Accruals within those accounts are tax free until distributed and then are taxed as ordinary income.
Newt Gingrich had the same idea for Capital Gains. Turns out Rush is just as wrong about the idea as Newt was:
Here are a few examples of why Newt and Rush's plans for Capital Gains won't work.
Capital Gains Cuts Mostly Benefit The Wealthy:
If you care about who benefits from tax cuts, and don’t think it should mainly be the rich, and in particular if right now you’re not so crazy about cutting taxes on the people on Wall Street who are responsible for getting the country into the huge financial mess it’s in, this probably isn’t your favorite tax change. The benefits of capital gains tax cuts overwhelmingly go to those who own capital assets outside of retirement and other tax-protected accounts. By definition it is the rich who own most capital assets.
The Incentive Will Be To Sell:
A 0% capital gains rate would in fact be a disaster for the market. One virtue of having a tax on capital gains is that it dampens volatility and promotes longer-term investing. That is, if you pay tax on profitable trades, you’re less likely to make moves based on short term movements on the market. Given the uncertain times we face, it’s far more likely that a zero rate on capital gains would prompt a massive exodus from the market than a massive entry into it. In fact, if you think about it, the immediate motivation of a 0% capital gains tax rate is to sell - not buy.
There Will Be No Incentive To Save:
We worry all the time about insufficient savings in this country for retirement and education. One of the ways in which we encourage saving is to create no-tax retirement and education accounts. If all accounts are no-tax, money will likely not be put into these forms, which it’s much harder to pull out of.
In a time like this, when tempers are riding high and many Americans are close to panic about their jobs and finances, you have a special responsibility to consider the accuracy of what you say and the consequences of inflammatory and erroneous statements. In the last few days, manifestly distorting my words and pulling them out of context, you have accused me of wanting to exclude white males from jobs generated by the stimulus package. Anyone who takes a moment to examine what I actually said and wrote knows this to be an absurd misrepresentation of my position (see this). My goal is and has always been to create as many opportunities for as wide a group as possible, and not exclude anyone from access. There is and has never been any ambiguity about this. The hate mail I have received since your broadcast suggests that the mischievous consequences of your demagoguery are potentially dangerous, in addition to being destructive of rational and constructive political discourse. I urge you to take responsibility for your words. Words and ideas have real world consequences, and you have demonstrated a cavalier disregard for both.
People like Malkin, Limbaugh, conservative bloggers ( et al ) refuse to listen to anyone with any type of economic background.

Then there are the governors of states that are lambasting the stimulus. Then they turn around and say they will only accept certain portions. Sarah Palin is part of this gang.
The biggest single chunk of stimulus money that Palin is turning down is $160 million for education. There’s also $17 million in Department of Labor funds (vocational rehabilitation services, unemployment services, etc.), about $9 million for Health and Social Services and about $7 million for Public Safety.
Then there's South Carolina Governor Mark Sandford.
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

Outrage For Obama And Not Palin?
Ah, I love the smell of silent hypocrisy in the afternoon.
Sarah, you've got some explaining to do:
And it gets better. She seems to not care that she is denying fund to go toward education and even seems to hint that it really isn't that important to her at all.
I'll just sit here and wait for Malkin, Morrissey, Hewitt, the clowns at RedState, and all their pals to respond.
I think I might be waiting for a LONG time.
Sarah, you've got some explaining to do:
The biggest single chunk of money that Palin is turning down is about $170 million for education, including money that would go for programs to help economically disadvantaged and special needs students. Anchorage School Superintendent Carol Comeau said she is "shocked and very disappointed" that Palin would reject the schools money. She said it could be used for job preservation, teacher training, and helping kids who need it.
And it gets better. She seems to not care that she is denying fund to go toward education and even seems to hint that it really isn't that important to her at all.
....It is a matter of discussing with our lawmakers if the expansion there is something we're willing to pick up the tab for when the federal dollars dry up, when they no longer flow into Alaska.
I'll just sit here and wait for Malkin, Morrissey, Hewitt, the clowns at RedState, and all their pals to respond.

Oh, So NOW They Care About The Special Olympics?
It was bad form on Obama's part. There's no questioning that.
He has apologized. It was accepted.
But this reactionary posturing from the likes of Michelle Malkin, Ed Morrissey, and RedState - the later devolving quickly into a dithering non-sequitir that makes the psycho-babble of Micheal Savage almost palatable - is pathetic. Not just pathetic, but disgusting. On, and on they go.
The net is teaming with right-wing conservative voices that appear to be coming to the defense of The Special Olympics.
So, where was their alleged love of the mentally disabled before last night?
Many will point to Sarah Palin's son Trig as an example. But we all know that was more love for Palin than it was having any honest compasion toward Trig.
Selective "moral" outrage tarted-up to look like honesty.
I don't buy it.

I'm Starting To Feel A Bit Troubled
What does this say about Geithner?
It's troubling because, if he wanted the provision in the bill, Geithner let his fear guide him rather than his knowledge.
What made Geithner so afraid of haveing a lawsuit leveled at his department?
What else played a part in this decision?
Many questions. Many questions that probably won't be asked.
Naturally, this is going to lead the news tonight and be the top story on all the "prime-time" programs ( I can already sense Sean Hannity is getting into a maturbatory lather right now ) but I can almost guarantee that they will make more of this than there is.
Unfortunately, there's already a lot there.
There's got to be more to this.
If not, Tim might be looking for a new job. Reguardless of what happens to him, there should definately be some housecleaning done at the Treasury.

Using Others Ethnicity To Excuse Racist Speech
Anyone know what the word Schartzer means?
According to the "Urban Dictionary", it's a German word for "black", only spelled with an "n".
Apparently, comedian Jackie Mason - a Fox"News" favorite - used this blatantly derogatory term in reference to Obama when confronted by TMZ.
John Amato @ Crooks And Liars discusses this:
I agree, a comedian has creative liscense to speak how they wish. Free speech, you know.
Here's where the story takes an interesting, albeit predictable, turn.
Conservative pundit Angela McGlowan appears on The O'Reilly Factor to defend Mason.
Why is this important?
Angela is African American.
You see, this is a tactic that is often used by the likes of O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. They love to shout about racial divisiveness, so long as it is the "white man" that is the victim. When the conservative hosts are ready to respond, they will use an African American to justify their position.
This has been done countless times with Jesse Lee Peterson when he appears on Sean Hannity's program to defend Sean against being called "racist" - though he is eager to call most African Americans such.
Eric Rush is another example.
Just like Rush and Peterson, Angela McGlowan is being used. She may or may not realize it. She may or may not care. But what is troubling about this, is that it is a common practice at Fox"News" and appears to be acceptable by their demographic.
As Amato rightly pointed out in his piece:

TMZ had caught up with Mason on the street and he started cursing them out as he told them that he's said worse things about other minorities. I think TMZ was out of line on this one (hounding an old man) and I bet most of you didn't even know about it until I posted on this. (That's a guess) I think comedians should basically say whatever the heck they want, if you don't like their humor, it will play out in the pocketbook. If Mason called Italians "WOPs" in a show that I attended it wouldn't bother me.

Hannity's $10,000 challenge
Last night on Hannity, Sean challenged Phil Donohue to show him where in the Constitution it said that Congress had the authority to declare war.
It is generally the case of people within the lunatic-fringe Right to espouse their undying patriotism and love of the constitution without even knowing what it says.
Perhaps Sean would be interested in this:
Click images to play clips from last nights program on Fox"News"
It's generally an interesting show when Phil Donohue is on, though I thought he gave Sean WAY too much room to talk about how "patriotic" completely distort the Constitution.

Sarah, Are You Still Thinking What I'm Thinking You're Thinking?
A poll was released today by Public Policy Polling, that shows that Obama would easily win a second term is Sarah Palin decided to run in 2012.
Of course, we all know that polls are simply snapshots of a given groups mood at a specific place and time.
Palin wasn't exactly a shining example of a candidate when she was John McCain's running-mate, and she's got a lot of ground to make up if she is even considering a 2012 run.
Then again, Public Policy Polling just may be part of the "vast, left-wing conspiracy"
Obama leads Palin 55-35 in the hypothetical contest. He has an 89-7 advantage among Democrats. Among Republican he trails 66-17. Last year exit polls showed Obama
winning only 9% of the Republican vote, so it appears Palin would lose a lot more voters
within her party than McCain did.

Remember the head of DIEBOLD saying the he would "deliver the election" in 2004 to Bush?
This story kind of validates all these people's fears.
California — Premier Election Solutions (formerly Diebold Election Systems) admitted in a state hearing Tuesday that the audit logs produced by its tabulation software miss significant events, including the act of someone deleting votes on election day.
The company acknowledged that the problem exists with every version of its tabulation software.
The revelation confirmed that a problem uncovered by Threat Level in January, and reiterated in a report released two weeks ago by the California secretary of state's office, has widespread implications for election jurisdictions around the country that use any version of the company's Global Election Management System (GEMS) software to tabulate votes. The GEMS software is used to tabulate votes cast on every Premier/Diebold touch-screen or optical-scan machine, and is used in more than 1,400 election districts in 31 states. Maryland and Georgia use Premier/Diebold systems exclusively, therefore the GEMS software counts every vote statewide.

More here.
And what exactly is her qualification for speaking about this issue?
And the people who are working there that are middle-class people, are expecting to get this bonus. If they do not get it, maybe they won’t be motivated enough to try to help the company turn around and getting the company to turn around and be more profitable is important for all of us.
Seems that Dana still thinks that she has to spin for her hold bosses.
More here.
And what exactly is her qualification for speaking about this issue?
How's This For Tolerance?
Is it suprising that this happened inOklahoma?
After showing her class the 2002 film adaptation of The Laramie Project, about the hate crime killing of Matthew Shepard, Debra Taylor's high school class wanted to film scenes for a class project. A few weeks later she was fired. Students say it's because the community is homophobic.

A Bit Under The Weather
Been working on another novel ( I should make a collage of my rejection letters ) and trying not to get any sicker than I am.
Might post some cool videos tonight.
Might post some cool videos tonight.
Inadvertently On Purpose
After seeing the original clip and then watching Fox"News" personality Martha MacCallum "apologize", I was reminded of something my mother used to say to me as a kid:
Are you really sorry, or are you just sorry that you got caught?
Here's the original clip:
And here's where Fox's editors got their "quote":
And, finally, MacCallum's non-apologetic response.
Just another crystal-clear example that Fox is so eager to make a blisteringly partisan point that they will lie to their audience.

It's Very Scary Fighting The Snake
My neighbor just came over to borrow my pipe-snake to clean out his kitchen pipes and I was immediately reminded of this fantastic track from Underworld:
Play loud and often.
Nice.

Nice.
"I Wanna Redefine The Mission"
The title comes from a direct quote from Micheal Smerconish on Hardball tonight.
He says that he "doesn't know what the mission is anymore".
WHAT!?
Redefine the mission?
Wasn't the original mission to catch Osama bin Laden?
How can we redefine that?
fucking idiot.
Video to follow soon.
Also, he doesn't seem to think we should care how Arabic women are treated............
Wasn't a Muslim woman just beheaded in America by her husband? We shouldn't care about how women in our own country are treated?
Is this guy fucking serious?
No wonder he was a substitute host of Bill O'Reilly's television show

Apparently, Bush Is Responsible For This
Who knew that a man that hasn't been President since January 20th would be responsible for a market rally in March?
Dana Perino seems to think he is:
More from Think Progress.
Look for this to be the start of the GOP strategy of "when things so right it must be because of what we did". Given their blatant obstructionist tendancies since the Obama administration took office - coupled with a complete lack of their own plans - it will be hard for them to convince the American public that they have done anything beneficial.

No Room For Hate - Unless You're Michelle Malkin
Michelle Malkin seems to think that people should have tolerance for hatespeech:
Malkin is refering to a speech at The University of Massachusetts given by conservative pundit, writer, and blogger Don Feder.
His abreviated speech, specifically tailored to insight anger amongst many in attendance, focused primariy on the following:
Ah, the "fascism" bit. How original.
From the start, this event was doomed to end and be a nice little talking-point for people like Malkin.
Granted, there were verbal interuptions ( and someone was escorted away that had a ferret, but there was no mention of it being waved in someone's face ) but Feder seemed ready to end his speech before he even started.
While disrupting a speech is a rather poor way to show that you disagree with a speaker, it's almost expected when you have a someone like Feder who is doing the speaking. It's people like this - as well as Ann Coulter and David Horowitz - who provide nothing to advance the national dialogue on specific issue, but prefer to "shock".
So, the question to Malkin would be - are you advocating hate-speech?
When someone compares his audience to Nazis, I don't really see that there is anything to gain from their words.
Republican Club vice president Brad DeFlumeri, who organized the event, had this to say:
Was there intent on their part?
It could easily be argued that Feder gave-up his free-speech rights because he realized that the audience had no desire to accept his hatred.
If you want your kids to go to a university that teaches tolerance for dissent, respect for free speech, and the ability to debate ideological opponents without screaming at them and waving ferrets in their faces, do not — I repeat, do not — send them to the University of Massachussetts....

Hate crime laws are fascism, fascism in the guise of protecting minorities.
Excepting laws against libel and slander, we have the freedom to spread lies and disinformation, the freedom to spread lies that are hurtful and even hateful, we have the freedom to say things that would enrage those who would suppress speech in the name of tolerance

But Does It Bring All The Boys To Your Yard
Apparently, there is a verbal-war brewing between Meghan ( My Daddy Lost The Election So Now Read My Blog ) McCain and Laura ( My Fox"News" Show Got Cancelled ) Ingraham.
McCain seems to have raised the ante by posting these tweets this evening.
For those of you that don't know, or have more to do with your lives than listen to pathetic ditherings from lunatic-fringe people like Laura Ingraham, here's an update:
And you wonder why her Fox show got cancelled?
It's nice to see that the Right have essentially devolved into "your ugly and your mom dresses you funny" responses.
But Ingraham is nothing more than a rank amatuer amongst the more "learned" prattle-heads that she so hopes to immulate.
So what was Meghan's response?
.......swing, and a miss.
Meghan, you have this golden opportunity, and that's all you can come up with.
Oh, well.
Truth-be-told, Meghan McCain is rather attractive......
Perhaps Laura seems threatened. Maybe not. Who knows.
That being said, who's up for a steel-cage, hot-oil wrestling match between the two?
Wait, just got this image of Ingraham lubing up.
Not pretty. Thankfully, I haven't had dinner yet.

If "Going Galt" Means....
.....that it is the "wealthy-producers" that are withdrawing and keeping themselves from "producing" what the "poor" in this country wants, I have just one question for Michelle Malkin - who continually espouses the wonders of this movement.
What exactly does she produce that anyone would want?
Aside from her syndicated diatribes that tend to focus on her own self-agrandization - and that within the tilted ideological demographic that she belongs to - rather than addressing the issue at hand, she isn't much of a "wealth producer" at all.

Technology And Movies - And Maybe Something Else
Android application developer Alex Holmes is creating a simple and powerful new way to get your pirated videos: an application that uses your cellphone's built in camera to scan a DVD bar code, then starts the movie downloading onto your home computer.
Called "Torrent Droid," the program means consumers who spot a DVD they like at the local Walmart will no longer have to choose between the instant gratification of buying it on the spot, and the frugal -- albeit illegal -- alternative of grabbing it from BitTorrent.
More here
I've always been fascinated with the rate at which technology evolves. You buy a new gadget and less than 6 months later it's obsolete.
This, on the other hand, is something that I find both interesting and rather unsettling at the same time.
Granted, piracy is seen as a problem in the entertianment industry, I'm cusious as to what the actual dollar value is, per year, that is lost when someone snags a movie or song(s) online instead of paying for it at your local "big box" store.
Any piece of technology that is developed for a certain purpose can be manipulated in order to perform another task. This can be something as mundane as reducing the time you spend in the grocery store or something as sinister as identity theft. Seeing as how this piece of tech was intended for stealing films ( by scanning the UPC code from a DVD ) it stands to reason that anything with a bar-code can be scanned and information appropriated.
Stewart v. Cramer
In which John Stewart shatters all the clap-trap from people like Scarborough, Hannity, and O'Reilly that he's just pretending to be what he isn't.
This was a great interview.
While I was watching this last night, I noticed that Stewart's demeanor had changed. He was doing something that the people at Fox"News" have a very difficult time doing - conducting an honest interview.
Sure, The Daily Show is comedy. It's meant to take-the-piss-out-of traditional media and the people they cover. It's supposed to be satirical, and possibly a bit subversive. Last night, John Stewart proved that he can do the relavent, poingnant, interview that people like O'Reilly and Hannity don't seem to have the sand to do.
Last night, The Daily Show was more news than most "news" shows.
Good job, John.

Someone's Probably Going To Be Looking For A New Job
Micheal Steele just cant' seem to catch a break.
Frist, he essentially calls Limbaugh irrelavent and gets a verbal beat-down from the "boss". Then, in a shining example of a Republican lacking any sort of backbone, he crawls over to Rush and offers all the supplication he can.
Now comes Steele's thoughts on abortion:
And when asked if he thought that women had the right to "choose" abortion?

....You can choose life or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.
And when asked if he thought that women had the right to "choose" abortion?
Yeah. I mean, again, I think that's an individual choice.

Who Is Jerusalem21?
Fox"News" - and many of it's employees - LOVE a juicy story about Obama, ficticious or not.
So, it is with little suprise that we find that they are continuing the William Ayres / Obama "connection" non-story:
The restart on this was triggered by WorldNetDaily ( you know, that same place where Jerome Corsi touted all his Obama nonsense ) writer Aaron Klein:
The last sentence was an obvious reference to the lunatic-fringers that insist that Obama was not born in the US and can't be President.
As I was reading through the Fox story and the WND piece, I came across this article by Kevin Poulsen @ Wired.
He talks about The Fox story and the WND piece, but goes a step further and notes that the person that edited Obama's page to add the "juicy tidbits" was a user named Jerusalem21.
Poulsen goes on to note:
Doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
Poulsen tried to contact Klein about this "exclusive" piece and wasn't immediately contacted back. Also, he seemed to realize the Wired and Poulsen were onto him and he changed the text of the story
While Klein's pathetic attempt to resurrect the notion that Obama, Ayres, and Wright are somehow interconneted on such a level is more than just laughable, it is also a signifier that the conservative media at large are willing to modify history in order to fit their tilited ideology.
So, it is with little suprise that we find that they are continuing the William Ayres / Obama "connection" non-story:
Critics noted over the weekend that President Obama's page on the free online encyclopedia had been edited to remove any mention of his links to former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers, and to allow only a brief citation of his connection to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright — though pages for Ayers and Wright are heavily peppered with references to the president, including subsections on both pages that detail their past affiliations with him.
The restart on this was triggered by WorldNetDaily ( you know, that same place where Jerome Corsi touted all his Obama nonsense ) writer Aaron Klein:
A perusal through Obama's current Wikipedia entry finds a heavily guarded, mostly glowing biography about the U.S. president. Some of Obama's most controversial past affiliations, including with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and former Weathermen terrorist Bill Ayers, are not once mentioned, even though those associations received much news media attention and served as dominant themes during the presidential elections last year.
Also completely lacking is any mention of the well-publicized concerns surrounding Obama's eligibility to serve as commander-in-chief.
The last sentence was an obvious reference to the lunatic-fringers that insist that Obama was not born in the US and can't be President.
As I was reading through the Fox story and the WND piece, I came across this article by Kevin Poulsen @ Wired.

Poulsen goes on to note:
Curiously, it turns out that Jerusalem21, whoever he or she might be, has only worked on one other Wikipedia entry since the account was created, notes ConWebWatch. That's Aaron Klein's entry, which Jerusalem21 created in 2006, and has edited 37 times.
Klein, who serves as WND's Jerusalem bureau chief, did not immediate respond to an e-mail Monday.
Doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
Poulsen tried to contact Klein about this "exclusive" piece and wasn't immediately contacted back. Also, he seemed to realize the Wired and Poulsen were onto him and he changed the text of the story
Update: March 10, 2009 | 1:40:00 PM
This morning the WorldNetDaily story, which is headlined "Wikipedia scrubs Obama eligibility," was scrubbed clean of the name Jerusalem21, who's now referred to only as "one Wikipedia user." Fortunately, Google cache never forgets.
Second update: March 10, 2009 | 7:20:00 PM
Aaron Klein has answered my e-mail. Klein says that there's an "undeniable trend" of Ayers and Wright references being scrubbed from Obama's entry — as he wrote in his article. But he now admits that he's responsible for the Jerusalem21 edits that he reported on, and says he's updated his WorldNetDaily story to reflect that.
While Klein's pathetic attempt to resurrect the notion that Obama, Ayres, and Wright are somehow interconneted on such a level is more than just laughable, it is also a signifier that the conservative media at large are willing to modify history in order to fit their tilited ideology.
Who Really Knows How Many Teabaggers There Were
Recently, another of the ridiculus "Tea Parties" - people that have their knickers in a twist over what they think the Obama administration is going to do to their taxes - was held in Fullerton Co. California.
The coverage that these "teabagging" gatherings are getting from right-wing/conservative sites is nothing short of glowing adoration.
The truth of the matter is, the parties amounted to what can only be described as irrelevant at best:
Today, conservative blog Patterico's Pontifications ( aw, isn't that cute - alliteration ) gave an interesting crowd estimation.
That's a hell of a range - either 8K or near double that.
Seems that the conservative movement - in all it's various forms and faces - can't seem to come to grips with the fact that they have no real motivation left. The best they are able to do is create "fear" around what they are discussing.
The "Tea Party" nonsense is just another in a long line of examples of how conservative voters have this desire to be part of a"gimmick" in order to feel accepted. Even if that "gimmick" prevents them from not just seeing but accepting the fact that they are being duped by people that are meant to represent them.
Just think about how many people that participated in these events that won't see their taxes increased, that will have the option of tax deductions or credits not afforded to them these last eight years.
The coverage that these "teabagging" gatherings are getting from right-wing/conservative sites is nothing short of glowing adoration.
The truth of the matter is, the parties amounted to what can only be described as irrelevant at best:
Let's see...The Pittsburgh party was canceled due to rain. A whopping 79 people showed up today in Jacksonville, FL. Looks like maybe over a dozen showed up in Asheville, NC. Almost 10 people made it to the Buffalo, NY, protest. About 100 people throughout all of Los Angeles came out to Santa Monica Pier. All of about 300 people made it out throughout the entirety of Atlanta. 250 made it out to Dallas for the tea party there. 150 in Lansing. Looks like about 100 went to watch the Joe the Plumber and Michelle Malkin teabag fest in D.C. (if you had to retch, it's not my fault, just your dirty, dirty mind...)
The very best numbers these jokers managed to pull was 1,500 people in St. Louis (UPDATE: St. Louis wasn't anywhere close to 1,500; it was more like 400 if that--delusional, pathetic FAIL), and somewhere between 500-1,000 in Chicago--if reports from the organizers are to be believed.
Perhaps most hilarious is the 250-person turnout in Houston which was said to bepretty good turn-out considering the livestock show barbeque cook-off in Reliant Park was a competitor.
Because an all-or-nothing, bare-fisted fight against a Commie takeover of the United States just can't compete with the lure of livestock barbeque, not even for a few hours. That's patriotism for ya! The new Republican motto might be: "Give me liberty, or give me short ribs! Aw, hell, just gimme the ribs already."
Today, conservative blog Patterico's Pontifications ( aw, isn't that cute - alliteration ) gave an interesting crowd estimation.
Radio personalities John and Ken recently hosted a “taxpayer revolt” in Fullerton with a crowd of between 8,000 and 15,000....
That's a hell of a range - either 8K or near double that.
Seems that the conservative movement - in all it's various forms and faces - can't seem to come to grips with the fact that they have no real motivation left. The best they are able to do is create "fear" around what they are discussing.
