Begging For Terrorism

Each and every time I hear a member of the conservative movement speak about possible attacks on America as if they were actively hoping they would happen, I'm reminded of a segment in the opening of Bill O'Reilly's magnum opus "Culture Warrior" in which he visualizes an America of the future.

In it, O'Reilly poorly constructs a narrative around a woman President and what she feels has made the country better, safer, and what sacrifices she claims that the country must accept in order to move on. One of those "sacrifices" is a massive terrorist attack within the US that kills thousands.

But what we are seeing now is the poorly constructed fiction that sprang forth from the forehead of O'Reilly becoming the reality within the party and movement that he so vehemently claims to not have any particular alliance with. Well, the character he attempts to play on TV says that.

Michael Scheuer, former CIA analyst, takes on the role of O'Reilly's protagonist as well as becoming an additional voice in the ever growing cacayphony of conservatives that seems to be praying for a mass killing at the hands of Osama bin Laden.

While Scheuer's past experience with the CIA provides a unique and compelling perspective in regards to bin Laden's motives and how he has managed Al Queada, he seems in favor now of using that past expertise and knowledge in order to promote abject fear within America and actively promote the destruction of a major American city.

While we continually hear from the conservative media that the Obama adminstration is using the "tactics of fear" ( read: delivering the truth about America's economy ) in order to promote their agenda, it's interesting to note that some of those same prominent voices within the right-wing realm are aligning themselves with the likes of Sheuer.

My question would be this - what would be acceptable collateral damage for these conservatives?

If you listen closely they have been telling you the answer for years.
