Mexican government officials are in the pocket of Mexican drug lords. Members of the Mexican military lend their support to Mexican drug lords. Mexican police double deal by being footsoldiers for Mexican drug lords at the same time they work for the various states. It’s all a great, corrupt mess down there.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s message to Mexico? It’s America’s fault.
And then Warner Todd Huston cranks it to 11.
And as the violence in Mexico begins to leak across the border into our southwestern states, what is Barack Obama’s idea to help? He wants to disarm our own people by raising the specter of “assault rifles,” a term that has no real meaning, and by re-instituting the “assault weapons” ban in the U.S.
So, another country’s internal corruption and internecine violence is our fault according to Obama and Clinton. And we are going to disarm ourselves in the face of foreign violence to “solve” the problem? Apparently, we are the ones the Mexicans have been waiting for, too. At least we are the ones that Mexican drug lords have been waiting for, anyway.
Clinton said that America shares the blame. And that is a fact.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says America's insatiable demand for illegal drugs and inability to stop weapons smuggling into Mexico are fueling an alarming spike in violence along the U.S.-Mexican border.
Clinton said today the Obama administration acknowledges that the United States shares responsibility with Mexico for dealing with the violence. She said the administration will work with Mexican authorities to improve security on both sides of the border.
Here she is discussing this statement on CNN:
It's a fact that is you have something to sell, no matter whether it's drugs or not, you are going to go where the demand is. There have been drugs coming into the country from Mexico since before any of us can remember.
And the paranoid delusional ramblings that Obama is going to systematically disarm America is almost too laughable to discuss. It is, however, a classic example of conservative fearmongering.
The larger point of all this, is that people like Huston are operating under the notion that America is a completely virginal country that is perfect. Drugs come here and are forced up us. America doesn't smuggle products into other countries. I may be cynical at times, but I'm not so blinded by ideology to think that my country has no imperfections.
