Random Thoughts On The "Media Fairness Caucus"

Talk about a complete waste of time for Congress.

Rather than confront real issues that affect the American population, Congressman Lamar Smith ( R-Tx ) has filed papers to start a "Media Fairness Caucus". No, seriously.

It's entirely no suprise that Smith is a Republican and that he is touting this ridiculus idea on Fox"News". And his rationale that one of the greatest threats to America is "liberal media bias" places him sqarely on par with reactionary, ignorant, legislators like Michelle Bachman. Smith is a perfect example of how Republicans are completely out of touch with America and have absolutely no cluewhat is going on.

Allahpundit features Congressman Smith in a "Quote of the Day"post yesterday at HotAir. And, his readership follows right along with Smith's ignorant claim that "liberal media bias" is actually a "threat" to America.

But here's where this whole nonsensical topic goes completely against conservative Republicans ill-informed fear of The Fairness Doctrine.

One would think that a group that wails and complains about "bias" in the media, a media they claim is completely against conservative ideals, would be in need of The Fairness Doctrine.

By it's very nature, the Fairness Doctrine is designed to give balance to arguements on television and radio. If you have a conservative point of view, you need a liberal/progressive point of view. Nothing sinister about that. Well, unless you're a conservative with a radio or television program.

So here's where we are at. Congressman Smith is proposing that House Republicans form a group to create a "Fairness Doctrine".

In the end, this is not about "fairness" to conservative Republicans, this is about them losing. They didn't want the original Fairness Doctrine reinstituted simply because their own personal "Jesus", Ronald Reagan, did away with it in the 80s. And, Reagan and God knows, that anything The Gipper did doesn't need to be changed, unless you attempt to repackage it, give it a new name, and claim that it's designed to make you and your voice stronger and silence others.

Funny, that's exactly what they claimed the original Fairness Doctrine does.
